How to get started
Here is a step-by-step process of how to get your child, family, or yourself started in therapy.
-
1. Click "Schedule Appointment" and fill out a form
After you submit the form, you can schedule a time for a free phone consultation. Our Intake Coordinator, Aly Dunteman, will give you a call at the scheduled time. She will discuss your needs and match you with the therapist who is the best fit for you. She will also answer any questions. If you want to move forward, Aly will help you schedule an Intake Session with your therapist. We will provide trusted referrals if we are not a good fit for your needs.
-
2. Intake Session
The Intake Session is the first appointment with your therapist. For children aged 12 and under, this session will be for parents/caregivers only. Teens will come with their parents/caregivers. Your therapist will review background information about the child and family, consent paperwork, practice policies, what to expect in therapy, and begin establishing treatment goals. This will be a time for you to get to know your therapist and ask any questions.
-
3. Start Therapy
Treatment begins with individual therapy sessions, which last around 45-55 minutes, usually on a weekly basis. As the therapist gets to know the client more, more feedback will be provided to parents/caregivers. For play therapy clients, we offer parent consultations around every 4-5 sessions.
-
4. Evaluate Progress
Typically, most of our clients receive around 12 individual sessions. The number of sessions varies based on many factors, including the severity of the symptoms and the presenting problem. Some clients may feel relief sooner, and some may require more treatment. The therapist, client, and parents/caregivers will work together to evaluate progress and hopefully see an improvement in functioning and progress on goals. Individualized recommendations will be made to support the client.
